How to apply

Applications for ITT programmes are made through the government Apply for Teacher Training Programme.

Apply for Teacher Training Programme 

Apply from 10th October for places starting in September 2024 in Primary (3-7), Primary (5-11) and Secondary (11-16 with Post 16 Enhancement): Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computing, DT, English, Geography, History, Mathematics, MFL, Music, PE, and Physics. Submit your application soon.

Apprenticeships are available through our accredited partner Exceed www.exceedscitt.co.uk

The Selection Process

If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview in one of our partner schools. The half day process will consist of:

  • a written task;
  • a classroom visit including delivery of a 15 minute observed teaching task (you will be informed in advance of the age group and topic for the lesson);
  • a formal panel interview including a 5 minute presentation to the panel on a pre-notified topic.

The outcome will be communicated via Apply and email in the first instance.

Selection Criteria

  • An honours degree at classification 2.2 or above (or other evidence of appropriate subject knowledge)
  • Advanced level qualifications (or equivalent) in a related subject
  • GCSE at grade C or above in English and Maths (Science for Primary applicants only)
  • Enhanced DBS, Barred List and Child Care Disqualification checks
  • Medical check
  • Committed to safeguarding children

Desirable skills and qualities:

  • Passion for working with children and young people
  • Commitment to teaching as a future career
  • Resilience to meet the challenges of the training year and beyond
  • Recent classroom experience in the UK (10 days recommended)
  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Some understanding of the key issues relating to teaching and learning in their subject area/age group

Making Your Application

You will need two references, one of which should be from either your University or an employer. To avoid delays make sure you have these arranged before you submit your application.

Original Certificates

You must present the original documents at interview: GCSE English, GCSE Maths, GCSE Science (Primary applicants only) at Grade C or above, Degree Certificate if already awarded (or ENIC equivalent).
