Primary School Direct (Salaried 5-11)

Primary School Direct (Salaried 5-11) - Training Programme

This programme is full time and runs from September until the end of August.

Excellent outcomes

Led by Outstanding schools

A great place to live and work

A diverse range of schools

A personalised programme

Experienced support

Due to funding for this year, the Primary Salaried Programme is not available September 2022, but will be reviewed when government funding is reviewed.

Trainees will typically have at least two years significant work experience which, ideally, will include working with children or young people. Salaried trainees are paid by their host school on Level 1 of the Unqualified Teacher Scale and can only be offered a place where schools have agreed to fund them on this basis. It is expected that, prior to application, candidates have agreed "sponsorship" with a partner school. Usually, this will be a school where they are already employed in a different capacity (TA/HLTA). We do not locate sponsoring schools – this is up to the candidate. The fees for the salaried course are £9,250 – these are also to be paid by the sponsoring school.

Why Train to Teach Primary with Northern Lights?

Northern Lights SCITT primary schools have designed and developed the programme following years of involvement in initial teacher training.  As the eventual employers of Newly Qualified Teachers, schools are best placed to train future colleagues ensuring that they are fully prepared for the role of classroom teacher in local schools and beyond.

Staff in our schools are committed to mentoring and supporting trainees so that they are able to maximise the opportunities offered and benefit from their hands-on experience in the classroom.  Schools with expertise in particular aspects of primary provision host whole cohort training days during the school placements, allowing trainees to learn and discuss their own experiences with their peers.

If you are committed to giving children the best start, we are looking forward to receiving your application.
