Northern Lights is led by Skipton Girls’ High School, the first all girls’ school to be designated an Engineering Specialist School in 2003. Since then our staff and students have gained a national reputation for excellence and working at the forefront of teaching and learning in engineering, speaking at national and international conferences. Facilities in the Faculty are excellent, from traditional machines through to 3D printers.
Teachers with specialist knowledge are in high demand within schools and industry knowledge is highly prized by students, colleagues and communities. Trainee mentors have come to teaching from industry and so have a background of technical expertise as well as knowledge of teaching and learning practice.
We have a wealth of industrial partners who give their time and sponsorship in projects with real life context inspiring our students to take up Technology and Engineering as career options e.g. Rolls-Royce, J M Bentley, Laing O’Rourke and BAE Systems as well as local small businesses.
Train with Northern Lights to teach Design and Technology in an innovative, and dynamic learning environment.
